Christmas Food and Gift Drive 2023 02

It is with great pleasure that, on Tuesday 28 November, the Rotary Club of Southern Districts recognised seventeen-year old Jayden Hills as our Young Citizen of the Year. Joining us for the presentation were ten members of Jayden’s family as well as Acting Principal of Thornlie Senior High School, David Norcliffe and President of Thornlie’s P&C Association, Michelle Manolas.

Jayden first came to our Club’s attention when he received Thornlie Senior High School’s school leavers’ Community Service Award. Jayden is a popular member of the school community who has been an excellent role model for his peers.

In particular, as an accomplished photographer , Jayden has generously given up his time over the past three years to fulfil the role of School Photographer, attending every school event to photograph, record and provide media for important school publications.

Outside school, Jayden pursues his dual passions for photography and aviation, combining them wherever possible. His photography portfolio includes arial photography over Alice Springs as well as some high profile Baseball, Basketball, State Football and concert photography. Along the way, Jayden’s obvious talent and enthusiasm, and sheer hard work, have gained him the respect of a number of more established professionals, who have then encouraged and mentored him.

2023 Young Citizen of the Year Jayden Hills with Phil Cordery. Jayden recently secured a job as a baggage handler at the Perth International Airport which will not only give him the opportunity to be around planes all day, but also to access fantastic photographic opportunities in his breaks and down-time.

His family describe Jayden as motivated, positive, caring and a joyful person to be around. Jayden values the information and emotion that a great photograph can give and has made the effort to improve his skills and equipment so that others in his community may benefit. Shy but quietly confident in his abilities, Jayden offers his time, usually without being asked, to photograph people and events, often then editing and helping the subjects publish them. His is an example of true community service.

It is his willingness to help others in his community through his passion for photography that has seen Jayden nominated for this award.

Rotary Southern Districts is very proud to announce Jayden Hills as the Rotary Club of Southern Districts Young Citizen of the Year 2023.
